δοῦλος — Terms of use

Last updated 16 October 2026

1. What Doulos is

Doulos is a free, non-commercial, educational site for reading and studying the Bible with its manuscripts, ancient versions, dictionaries and early readers. It has no advertising, no paid tier and no charges of any kind.

2. Each text keeps its own licence

Doulos brings together texts and data from many sources: editions, manuscript transcriptions, translations, dictionaries, grammatical tagging and commentary. Each keeps the licence its source gave it. The credit shown with a text names its source and its licence, and the full list of sources and licences is on the licences page. That licence governs what you may do with the text. Nothing in these terms takes away any right a licence gives you: where a text is public domain or openly licensed (for example CC BY or CC BY-SA), you may use it exactly as that licence allows.

3. Sources licensed for non-commercial or educational use only

Some sources allow only non-commercial or educational use, or only reading on Doulos. Doulos uses them on those terms, and you may use what you read here from them on the same terms. Doulos offers no download of these sources. Anything quoted from them into a document carries their credit, and some sources may be quoted only up to a stated number of verses per document, or not at all.

4. Doulos's own work

Some material is Doulos's own work, such as its manuscript transcriptions and alignments. It carries the licence shown with it.

5. Quoting

Quoting Doulos for study, teaching, research or review is welcome. Please credit the source named with the text, and Doulos.

6. Your account

What Doulos keeps about you, and how to delete it, is set out on the privacy page.

7. Accuracy

Doulos is provided as it is. Scholarly data contains errors, and so may Doulos's own work. If you find one, please write to info@doulos.bible.

8. Rights holders

If you hold rights in material on Doulos and believe it is being used outside its terms, write to info@doulos.bible. The material will be taken down while the claim is looked into.

9. Changes

When these terms change, the date above changes with them.
